White Rose Rowing Club is the staff and community branch of the University of York Boat Club, based in Fulford. The White Rose club was set up in 2015 to encourage staff and local residents to learn a new skill and keep fit at the same time, plus to entice experienced rowers back on to the water for some fun recreational paddling. The club is run by volunteers, frequently assisted by our wonderful university student rowers, coxes and coaches. We row on the Ouse in York, and have the opportunity to see the historic city from a different perspective.
We welcome experienced, out of practice and novice rowers, scullers, coxes and coaches over 18 years old. We run taster sessions where you can try rowing for the first time, and follow on learn to row sessions if you decide it is the sport for you! For our experienced rowers there is the chance to go for an after work paddle, to help teach other members or take part in some local competitions as and when you can make it. We offer membership to the club, or you can sign up for flexible pay as you go sessions.
Our members row throughout the year, with numerous opportunities to be out on the water from spring through to autumn, and land training in addition to a weekly water session during the winter. Members can choose to participate in informal relaxed races such as the regional Sunday League run by British Rowing which offers short races in stable coxed quads for novices, as well as local regattas and head races.
